Membership Requirements

New Membership
Eligible veterans applying for first time membership must submit the following information to Post Membership Committee:
- Complete American Legion Membership Application.
Print two (2) completed copies. Keep one copy for your records. Mail the other copy to American Legion, PO Box 53,Sanford, FL 32773 or come by The American Legion Post 53 located at 2544 Park Dr., Sanford, FL 32773. Applications are also available at the Post.)
- Provide a copy of your DD214 discharge or Military ID.
- Pay $45.00 to The American Legion Post 53 (check perferred).
- If the information is correct, come to Membership Meeting (1st Thursday of every Month). You will be brought in front of Membedrship to be VOTED in.
Transfers
Veterans applying for transfers from your current Post to our Post must submit the following:
- Complete The American Legion Member Data Form
- Provide a copy of your DD214 discharge or Military ID
- Provide a copy of your current Membership Card. If Membership is Paid-up for the year, no dues are due. Post 400 Members can Transfer to our Post, as long as your Membership is CURRENT. Paid-Up-for Life Members (PUFL) can Transfer to our Post at NO COST
ELIGIBILITY DATES
Membership eligibility in the American Legion is based on honorable service with the U. S. Armed Forces.
Must have served at least one day of active military duty and honorably discharged or still serving honorably. :
