American Legion Post 53 Service Officer Report
May 2025
Veterans and Families Helped: 23
Service Officer Hours: Present for all Tuesday Service Officer hours and attended only the Coffee & Chat Fridays on May 2nd, May 16th and May 30th. May 9th and May 23rd were missed due to personal commitments.
Attended: The Jr. ROTC awards ceremony at Lake Mary High School on May 15th, The Seminole County Memorial Day service at the County Courthouse on May 23rd, and the City Of Sanford Memorial Day ceremony at Sanford's Veterans Park on May 26th.
Missed the Memorial Service at Post 53 on May 23rd due to personal commitment.
Veterans Treatment Court: Hearings sessions were on Thursdays May 1st and May 15th, with the May 29th session being cancelled. Most of the veterans were compliant, with 2 graduations. None were assigned community service hours to Post 53.
The Mission Continues: Represented Post 53 at the Community and Veterans Health Fair with the Mission Continues in Orlando on May 31st.
Veterans Advisory Council, Seminole County (VACSC): Post 53 was represented by Dave Keller at the membership meeting on May 20th at the Fleet in Sanford. In addition to the representatives of the member organizations there were 22 visitors attending. Various presentations and announcements were given to include the dates and times of Memorial Day events, community resources and veterans resources. New Business included voting the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) Seminole County Chapter as a new .member organization. The next membership meeting is scheduled for June 17th at Legion Post 183. Post 53 will not host a membership meeting until renovations are complete.
